CapeSpeed 1st African team to qualify for the end of the formula student

On July 18, 2012, Cape Town:Computer ' perform speed ' of CPUT, the first African team that never qualified for the finals of the competition of racing student formula international of United Kingdom (FS), which took place in Silverstone, United Kingdom, from 13 to 15 July 2012, has 132 general 65 and came to 27 of 132 for the resistance of the event stage.
Professor Isobel Pollock, President of the institution of mechanical engineers, the organization that runs the competition, says that this is the first time in the history of the competition formula student, made by a team of Africa through the final dynamic tests. Also commented that it never has a team of newly arrived introduced a car with immaculate finishes. Also said that the speed of Cape was the team in the event with the highest percentage of female representation.

Team speed last out serving 'Static' of the competition, where they were judged on skills presentations of business, costing and sustainability, and design of the formula style car. They qualified and then moved the dynamic phase, which began on July 14. East involved the team face their cars against other teams through the acceleration, velocity and non-skid pad tests on the track before completing the final endurance race on 15 July.
Cape Kerwyn Lategan speed team captain says he is proud of his team of marketing, especially taking into account that the team completed all events competition, something that some of the most experienced teams were unable to achieve. The team became especially well in the stage of resistance, where 27 of 132 teams, with only 62 were placed teams has managed to qualify for this stage of the event.
"We were third in line to take to the track for the event of resistance and when we finished we were the first team who have completed the event of resistance at that stage, with other teams who had started ahead of us experience failures mechanical not completing the race due to a driver error", explains. "We are proud to have completed the race." Our strategy involved drivers being cautious, rather than being quick, that might lead our participation coming to a premature end, "adds."
Before proceeding to the static and dynamic phases of the competition, the car and drivers had to pass a test of eight stages 'scrutiny'. "This is an exhausting process, where the car is checked the safety of drivers, the weight of the vehicle, technical safety and cabin space," says Lategan. "We also had to pass a test of output that checks if the driver is able to exit the vehicle within five seconds, as well as a test of slope where the vehicle is tilted 60 degrees to verify any fuel leaks and roll-over stability."
This was followed by a noise test to verify that the car was within the limit of 105 decibels. "Our car arrived at 115 decibels, but with the speed of thought and innovation we have devised a way of reducing noise levels within the limit", adds.
Cape speed arrives at Cape Town on Friday, July 20, 2012 and embarks on a campaign of awareness among aspiring engineers both at school and College on the achievements of the CapeSpeed to inspire other aspiring engineers and to demonstrate that South Africa can compete at the highest level of technology and innovation.
